Senate Bill 8 - Texas Women’s Privacy Act

Texas Senate Bill 8 (SB 8), also referred to on campus as the Texas Women’s Privacy Act or the Texas Bathroom Bill, is a state law that requires all Texas public schools and higher education institutions, to designate restrooms, locker rooms, and changing facilities based on biological sex as defined at birth rather than gender identity. The law also requires that institutions provide single-occupancy, unisex, or family restrooms as alternatives for those who prefer or need them.

College Compliance

Tarrant County College is committed to creating a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all students, employees, and visitors. At the same time, the College must comply with state law. In accordance with SB 8:

  • Restrooms and locker rooms at TCC campuses will be clearly identified and designated based on biological sex.

  • In addition to sex-designated facilities, the College will provide single-occupancy, unisex, or family restrooms as options for anyone who prefers them or whose needs are not met by traditional binary facilities.

  • Signage will be publicly posted and contain QR codes to help students and employees locate all restroom options, including gender-neutral facilities.

Definition of Biological Sex

Under SB 8, biological sex refers to reproductive anatomy or the sex assigned at birth, not an individual’s gender identity.

Violation Reporting and Support

  • Penalties under SB 8 only apply to institutions. TCC is responsible for maintaining compliance and may face fines or legal action if requirements are not met.

  • Students and employees who believe an issue related to SB 8 has occurred may use existing College grievance and reporting processes.

  • Students and employees are not obligated to file a report. Reporting is strictly voluntary.
